Children Reporting Publication Fee Recipients

Through Bhutan Media Foundation’s Children Reporting initiative, five journalists brought compelling stories about children to the forefront. With guidance from media experts, they highlighted resilience, challenges, and hope, shedding light on critical issues that shape young lives.
Yangyel Lhaden (Kuensel): Yangyel covered a story on child neglect in Bhutan, focusing on both physical and emotional neglect. Her piece highlighted the available services for children, Bhutan’s progress in ensuring better care, and the challenges that remain. The story also explored the way forward to improve the welfare and protection of children in the country.
Rinzin Norbu (Bhutan Today): Rinzin told a compelling story about children in remote Bhutan who faced daily treks to school through forests, rivers, and landslides. Despite these challenges, their dedication to education stood out, along with their resilience in helping their families after school. This story illustrated the strength of perseverance in adversity.
Nidup Lhamo (Business Bhutan): Nidup explored the challenges faced by youth in Bhutan attempting to reintegrate into society after coming into conflict with the law. Despite rehabilitation efforts, many struggled to find acceptance and a fresh start. Her story highlighted the need for improved support systems to offer second chances and foster inclusivity for all young individuals.
Rinchen Dorji: Rinchen covered Bhutan’s youth leading the fight against climate change as the nation faced erratic weather patterns and climate-induced disasters. The article highlighted how young people used education, sustainable practices, and advocacy to tackle these challenges and build a more resilient future.
Dema Yeshi: Dema addressed the critical issue of student nutrition, revealing that despite schools providing lunch, many students still lacked proper nutrition. Her story delved into the underlying challenges and called for better solutions to ensure students’ well-being.
These stories illuminated the lives of children in Bhutan and the challenges they face, bringing their voices and experiences to the forefront.
