Newsroom Management (6-9 December)
December 6th, 2015
The difference between a coach and a fixer is that while the former helps his subordinates grow through mentorship, the fixer simply provides a temporary solution to a problem. This principle formed the crux of the three-day workshop for Bhutanese newsroom managers held in Paro from 6 to 9 December. The intensive three-day workshop allowed 26 participants (7 female and 19 male) to understand the joys and challenges of leading journalists with brilliance and resilience and strengthen their skills in strategic planning and implementation in newsroom management. The workshop taught the participants how to be a great boss by focusing as much on the people as on the product; the power to create and sustain a positive workplace culture; provide feedback to raise quality, motivate and retain staff and the dynamics of performance management. This was the first time the Bhutanese media managers received training on newsroom management.
